www.lifeandliberty.info planning board

On August 18, 2003, the Justice Department launched www.lifeandliberty.gov, a new website for their pro-PATRIOT Act Propaganda.
In response, Lis Riba registered www.lifeandliberty.info, for combatting their false claims.
This weblog is for discussion by anybody involved in planning that site.

I regret that I am finding that I, too, cannot find the time and energy to lead this project at this time. I'm falling behind on tasks at both work and home I and think I need to refocus my energy accordingly.

I read the analysis that Rich posted last month and I think it makes our points fairly well in an abbreviated form.

Lis, perhaps the thing to do is make a more public announcement (say through LIS News, librarian.net, Library Juice, and perhaps by direct e-mails to ACLU, CDT, and EFF) that the LL.info domain is available and transfer it someone who seems willing and able to take it forward. Preferably someone already currently outspoken against the PATRIOT Act so we don't get a site like LL.com. This is just a suggestion. You bought the domain, you should have final say about what's done with it.

We might also consider publicizing this blog. Although it's not the organized site that we'd like, I think the three of us have posted some valid criticisms and good stories on what's wrong with the Act.

Again, I'm sorry that I've proved to be a disappointment. - Daniel

Dear Lis and anyone else within sight of this message. I haven't been able to get pages together before my conference followed by vacation. I won't be able to have anything ready before the first week of November.

IF ANYONE ELSE wants to put up something before then - DO SO. I will provide content support when I return. If not, I should have pages available for loading onto lifeandliberty.info by the end of the first week of November.

- Daniel

Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., said in a telephone interview from his Oregon office. "It was hundreds of pages long, and no member of Congress can tell you they knew what they were voting for in its entirety.

"It was time to be stampeded, and who wanted to be against the USA Patriot Act at a time like that?"

As it turns out, there weren't many politicians willing to face voters in the next election and explain why they voted against patriotism. Only one senator -- Democrat Russ Feingold of Wisconsin -- and 66 House members, including DeFazio, voted against it.

-------------------------------------------
