| The Department of Justice's first priority is to prevent future terrorist attacks.
| What an interesting definition. Too bad it doesn't hold up historically. The DoJ's current mission statement lists that as only one of six priorities, and it's second on that list. More interestingly, things are described differently on older iterations of the site, from before Ashcroft's tenure, you might notice a different emphasis. The earliest recorded version, from 1997, introduces the department, "As the largest law firm in the Nation, the Department of Justice serves as counsel for its citizens. It represents them in enforcing the law in the public interest."
