As you may know, my mother is a professional seamstress. She designed and made my wedding gown (as seen on the Osmond-Riba homepage) among other treasures of my wardrobe. Recently, she entered a contest involving the use of metallic denim, and this Victorian period outfit was the result.

The jacket is the only item made of metallic denim, with gold lining. In addition, she made me a blouse, skirt and bustle to complete the ensemble. [No, my butt is not that big!] Melrose holds an annual Victorian Fair every September, where I plan to wear this outfit. I'm also thinking of it as a hall costume for SF conventions -- the metallic finish would be ideal for a Steampunk look.

My highest (and public) compliments to my mother; the outfit looks better than I imagined and is amazingly comfortable (although it is hard to wear a seatbelt while also wearing a bustle). If you like the outfit, tell my mom, not me -- and if you'd like something similar, you can always ask whether she's taking new clients at the moment.

Yes, those buttons down the back are real -- they're not camouflaging a zipper, or anything like that. And there are thirty-four of them.

My birthday, actual:

The shirt I'm wearing is a birthday gift, also made by my mother.

And my birthday, observed:

The candles indicate my age in binary. One lit, followed by five unlit.
We got this idea from our friends the Silvers, and it just seems to make sense for values beyond childhood.

My hair is, in fact, purple in all the photos on this page. On Monday, I had my hair cut. [I was starting to get a bit shaggy, and let the professionals deal with cleaning hair-dye out of their sink; they're used to it!] These photos were taken that afternoon in Robbins Park in Arlington.
